Lena Pope Second Opportunity for Success

The White Settlement Police Department participates with the Second Opportunity for Success (SOS) behavioral intervention program developed by Lena Pope. SOS reports a 90% success rate and uses a diversionary model to help keep youth ages 10-16 from entering the juvenile justice system. Services are available in English and Spanish.

Detectives will work with parents and teens who meet the following criteria if the SOS program appears to be a good option to restore the youth to being a productive member of society.

  • First time offenders only
  • Offense classification of A, B, or C misdemeanors or non-violent felony
  • Referrals must be made from the White Settlement Police Department (not the parent)

SOS program provides services at no cost. The in-person sessions for youth and their families for 7 weeks. Most classes are held in the evenings for an hour and a half. There are milestone follow up sessions to ensure success.
