Citizens Police Academy

The Citizens Police Academy (CPA) is an interactive 13-week program designed to educate the public about WSPD policies, the criminal justice system, and ways to work together to reduce crime and improve quality of life for all residents. The CPA allows members of the department and citizens to meet, share ideas and information, and interact in a positive manner. One of the ultimate goals is to create lifelong partnerships between community members and the department.

Sessions meet for two to three hours a week, followed by a formal graduation ceremony at the completion of the multi-month program. Graduates of the CPA are invited to join Citizens on Patrol. Training classes cover a variety of topics that provide the participants a basic overview of what it takes to be a police officer. Program attendees also get an opportunity to ride out with police officers, at their discretion.

To attend the CPA, applicants must be at least 18-years old and pass a criminal background check. If you are interested in participating, please complete this online application form. You can also email wspd@wspd.us for more information. Citizens Police Academy
