The City of White Settlement Police Department was approved to upgrade its existing electronic control weapons from the Axon Taser X26P to the Axon Taser 7. This five-year contract with Axon Enterprise, Inc. will equip all police officers with the electronic control weapon through September 2028. As a de-escalation tool, this smart weapon comes with two cartridges which can be configured for close-range and long-range situations. Officers can easily toggle between the two cartridges by tilting their wrists, depending on the situation they are faced with.
The previous model, X26P, only allowed officers to carry one cartridge inside the electronic control weapon. This newer model is connected wirelessly to the Axon network to track a variety of data points important for agencies.
“This new capability and technology should lead to safer outcomes for officers and non-compliant individuals who are using or threatening to use active aggression towards our officers,” said Chief of Police Christopher Cook. “While our goal is always eliciting compliance, there are times that violent fugitives attempt to resist or actively fight officers.”
The Crime Control and Prevention District authorized the budget expenditure, which was ultimately approved by our City Council for the Fiscal Year 2023-2024 budget which began October 1, 2023.
