With the end of the year upon us it's time once again to set your winter quarter average for your sewer charge. Following council action in March of 2018, the sewer charge on your monthly bill is now calculated using this winter quarter average method. Your water usage during the months of November, December, January and February are measured, with your highest month dropped. The remaining three months usage are averaged, and that average will be your set sewer usage for the next twelve months. You'll see the new set sewer usage on your April 2020 utility bill.
This method of determining your sewer usage was adopted as a way to stabilize the ever-increasing costs of water and sewer that are imposed upon us by Fort Worth. Benefits of this method are that it doesn't fluctuate with the highs and lows of water usage throughout the year, residents have direct control over setting a low average by conserving water in these winter months, and summer activities such as watering the yard and filling up swimming pools don't impact what you pay in sewage fees.
For a more comprehensive explanation of winter quarter averaging, we encourage you to read our information release from last year that introduced this program. You can find that document HERE.
